Our Vision for Children

We believe Jesus Christ calls us to teach children that worship is an important part of their life even at a very early age (worship); equip families to study, pray and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ (grow); and give children and families the opportunity to serve and give generously (serve).

Sundays

CHILDREN IN WORSHIP

Teaching children that worship is a vital part of their lives, even at an early age, takes priority and intention. For that reason, the Children’s Ministry team encourages families to take the time to worship together at a service before or after Sunday school. Worship kits are available for young children when they enter a worship space. A yearly workshop is held for parents and children to talk about why we worship and how to worship as a family.

WEe worship is our preschool worship time on Sundays. Children who are in childcare during the 11 a.m. worship services participate in the class, held in the Guthrie-Bryant Chapel located on the second floor near the Sanctuary. Children are introduced to worship using age appropriate music, prayers and Bible stories for a short 20-minute service. Afterwards, they return to their preschool classrooms for crafts, playtime and snacks.

Because children learn in a variety of ways, FPCSA offers an exciting workshop rotation model of learning the Bible. Christopolis is a city where each classroom is a different venue such as drama, art, computer, multimedia, etc. Each room is an exciting place where a child learns major Bible stories and a faith lesson through the different child-friendly workshops. Students gather in town square for a short worship assembly with music, prayer and announcements before moving to the different classes. Parents are reminded to pick up their students promptly by 10:35 a.m. so teachers can attend worship on time. Learn more here.

Our tween program is designed for the unique age group of 5th graders. The class begins with “hang out” time to talk with friends, old and new, while having snacks and playing games in the newly designed tween classroom. A gifted team of teachers interactively present the Bible lessons to engage students in seeing God’s work in a new light and equip them with a biblical world view. Special events and mission outreach opportunities are offered throughout the year.

We believe that every child is created in God’s image and has a place in church. This ministry embraces children with special needs and provides a welcoming place for them to attend Sunday morning activities, where they hear God’s Word and enjoy fellowship. Each JOY student has a special “shepherd” who works one-on-one with them.

This program is part of First Presbyterian’s ministry to young children and their families. Four classes are available: toddlers, young 2s, older 2s and 3s. The teacher/child ratio is 1:4 for all the younger children and 1:5 for the 3s. Children hear a Bible story, sing songs, pray, do a creative art project, play outdoors and enjoy learning centers with dramatic play, blocks, manipulative toys and large motor activities. Loving, nurturing teachers strive to create a safe and positive environment for the preschoolers to learn about the Lord Jesus.
