Christopolis

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.

—Matthew 5:14

Elementary children in grades 1-4 are invited to First Presbyterian Church’s new and exciting Sunday morning experience called “Christopolis.”

Christopolis is more than Sunday school, it’s a special place where children come to learn and grow in their faith.

Children learn in a variety of ways. And in the city of Christopolis, children have the opportunity to learn through a variety of workshops that employ drama, art, multimedia technology, the Bible and computers.

Each year, children engage in an in-depth exploration of a variety of lessons or themes from the Bible lasting 4-5 weeks. In that period, the multidiscipline approach to teaching ensures that they will acquire a strong understanding of the Bible.

A day in Christopolis is an opportunity to walk its streets with Jesus and to learn of the special design he has in store for each of us. It offers children a model of a world where God is king and we are his obedient citizens.

Oh, the Places You’ll Visit!

Town Square (Room 136)

A day in Christopolis begins at the Town Square where children meet in assembly with their “shepherds.” Music, prayer and announcements start the morning off before the various grades move to their workshop locations for the day.

Gospel Power and Light Company (Room 134)

Citizens of Christopolis receive their power and light from one source: the Bible. So, it is here that children acquire important Bible skills such as looking up verses and understanding how the books of the Bible are organized. These essential skills “charge” students up to better understand how to study the Bible.

The Creative Arts Market (Room 138)

Imagine a place where our citizens let their creative imaginations loose and you’ve got a sense of what the Creative Arts Market is all about. Here, a varied palette of arts and crafts projects reveals God’s true love for us and encourages the artist in every child.

GodWorks Studios (Room 135)

Lights! Camera! Action! Citizens of Christopolis go in front of — as well as behind — the camera to tell of the amazing Good News of the Bible. Follow your nose to the smell of freshly popped popcorn. And when the lights go down, be prepared to see the premiere of future Brandos, Streeps and Spielbergs on our big screen.

Bitsy’s Computer Café (Room 139)

Serving up the latest in computer technology, Bitsy’s Computer Café features a diverse menu that connects the citizens of Christopolis to the Word through the personal computer. The only café in town that boasts about its population of mice, Bitsy’s offers a combination of secular and Christian software guaranteed to deepen a child’s faith.
