SAMM Shelter Needs Your Help; FPC Volunteer Coordinator Wanted

SAMM began at this church when a homeless man, frozen to death, was found on FPC church grounds during a cold winter morning in 1981. In response, volunteers started a ministry in the church’s gymnasium to shelter and care for the growing number of homeless individuals in downtown San Antonio. By 1983 this program, having gained the financial assistance of several downtown churches, was incorporated into San Antonio Metropolitan Ministry, Inc. (better known as SAMMinistries).  George MacNair has faithfully served as the coordinator for the SAMM shelter for the last few years, and is now retiring from that position. FPC is currently looking for someone to help coordinate volunteers to serve at SAMM for a few evening hours the last Saturday of every month. Remember, this ministry is run by volunteers, and we will not be able to continue this ministry without the generous dedication of people just like you! If you are interested in helping to keep this ministry going or volunteering at the shelter, contact Alyssa Payne at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or 226-0216, ext. 242. You must be registered in SAMM’s database to volunteer. Anyone who wants to fill out an application can go to the SAMM website at http://www.samm.org/volunteerapp/ and submit an online application which takes a few weeks to get processed. Please be sure to thank George MacNair by offering him a word of encouragement and a big hug for all the time, energy, and resources he has dedicated to FPC and the SAMM shelter.
