Up until the evening that Jesus got down on his knees and washed his disciples feet, serving was considered a shameful act appropriate only for slaves and the lower classes. Afterward, servanthood transformed into a noble virtue, a divine calling, a means of, and a way to encounter God’s grace.

Jesus said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Our Savior was quintessentially, a servant. Such was the life he modeled for us, and it is in his steps that God calls us to walk. The church is to be the gathering not just of saved people, but of servants.
