Ashraf and Naomi Abdou (Malta)
Ashraf and Naomi have just opened the Discipleship Training School (DTS) on the Meditteranean island of Malta. This school is affiliated with Youth With A Mission and started in the Spring of 2010. This DTS is taught in both English and Arabic and has a Frontier Missions focus. They are especially interested in having students from North Africa and the Middle East. Beth Allen (USA/international)
Beth is a member of First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio. For several years she served in Bolivia on the staff of Food for the Hungry. Today, Beth still serves on staff with Food for the Hungry as the Child Development Program Communications Specialist. She is working to bridge the flow of information between those who work with sponsored children in various regions and those who work with their sponsors. Antonio Alvarez (Scotland)
Antonio Alvarez's testimony is an incredible story that starts with his life as a Mexican orphan, foster child, and street dweller living in bus stations, to his coming to the U.S. to work construction. In Dallas, through a soccer field evangelist, he received Christ as Lord. A few years later God provided Antonio a vision to study and provide biblical scholarship in his native land and throughout Latin America. Antonio entered a Dallas bible college without ever having finished middle school or spending even one day in high school. He obtatined his GED and bachelors degree around the same time. After that he obtained two masters degrees, and is currently completing his doctorate degree in Scotland.
Dr. Bill Becknell (Russia)
"Dr. Bill" is the founder and head of Agape Unlimited. Agape's purpose is to show God's love and provide medicines, medical consultations, and assistance to people in rural Russia that have little or no access to medical care. The organization provides medical help for orphanages, schools, hospitals, clinics, private homes, prisons, government agencies, armed forces, truck stops, soup kitchens, homeless children, and even the Nenets who have lived on the Tundra in teepees for over 9,000 years. Agape is a small mission, with a huge task of taking God's love to the poor and isolated villages of Russia and also to the unreached people who live on the Tundra. John Farmer (Switzerland)
John is Operations Director for MedAir, a Christian Relief Organization that works in some of the hardest places in the world. He is responsible for strategic planning, risk management, and oversight of global field operations. Medair brings life-saving relief and rehabilitation in disasters, conflict areas, and other crises. Medair's mission is to seek out and serve the most vulnerable people affected by crises, particularly the forgotten men, women, and children who live in difficult-to-access regions in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Tim * (Western Asia)
Tim is an ordained Presbyterian pastor and has been under appointment in his current assignmentas a PC(USA) mission worker since January 2005. He teaches biblical scholarship, Old Testament history, and leadership training.
Susie Frierichs (Mexico)
Susie has served with the PCUSA in Mexico for the last 15 years. After 12 and a half years with Proyecto Amistad in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, she was transferred to the Presbytery of the Huastecas, a rural, indigenous presbytery in the foothills of the Eastern Sierra Madre located in east-central Mexico. There, she serves as an itinerant preacher and teacher, supporting the ministries of 13 congregations and that of the presbytery itself. Susie also serves as part of the faculty of the presbytery´s Bible Institute that trains lay pastors for ministry. Susie is from Kearney, NE, but considers the San Antonio and Austin area home.
George and Anne Harper (Philippines)
The Harpers have been missionaries with Action International Ministries since 1994. From 2005 to the present the Harpers have been teaching at Evangelical Theological Smeinary in Croatia. This past year, the Harpers answered God's cal to return to the Philippines, and this Fall they will begin teaching with the Asia Graduate School of Theology (APTS). The Harpers own a home in San Antonio, and when they return "home" to Texas each summer, they attend First Presbyterian Church, where they are affiliate members. Steve and Barbara Johnson (Hungary)
Originally from Texas, Steve and Barbara Johnson have worked in Budapest, Hungary for 15 years with Youth With A Mission (YWAM), ministering to the large number of college students and young adults living in Budapest. YWAM Budapest focuses on evangelism and discipleship trainining. Steve is now working to complete the renovation of an urban ministry center in downtown Budapest where they currently run their weekly coffee house ministry. He also serves part-time at the Inernational Christian School of Budapest as operations manager. The Johnsons have five children, all of whom were born overseas.
Darren and Elisabeth Kennedy (Egypt)
Darren and Elizabeth Kennedy are both full-time professors at Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo, Egypt. Darren teaches classes on the theology of Karl Barth, Third World theologians, Presbyterian doctrine and theology for lay people in the theological department. Elisabeth teaches Greek, Hebrew and courses on Christian education theory in the biblical studies and practical theology departments. They work with PCUSA, and are training pastors and lay leaders for ministry in the Coptic Evangelical Church, the largest Protestant denomination in the Middle East. During the summer they visit churches and presbyteries throughout Egypt and help with the field education and pastoral guidance of seminary students.
Taik joo and Youngkyo * (Western Asia)
Taik Joo & Youngkyo are PCUSA missionaries working in Eurasia. This country was formerly part of the Soviet Union, and the population is largely Muslim. A unique aspect of Taik joo and Youngkyo's ministry is incorporating the Christian message in cultural presentations, largely musical, which can reach many non-Christians to whom the gospel is otherwise unavailable.
Chris McReynolds (Mexico/U.S.)
PC(USA) mission volunteer, Chris McReynolds, serves Presbyterian Border Ministry's Proyecto Amistad as its U.S. Coordinator. Chris spends his time facilitating bi-national work between Presbyterian Churches of Mexico and the United States. He is helping to develop Proyecto Amistad's new initiative for church growth and Christian education through the Amistad Child and Parent Program. Bobby and Downie Mickler (Uganda)
The Micklers both grew up at First Presbyterain and have been sent out by the church on many mission trips over the years, including a three-year stint in the Dominican Republic working with the poor. After serving with Food for the Hungry for a year and a half in Kampala, Uganda, the Micklers have started their own business there called EcoNations. EcoNation is a Christian based, for-profit, eco-friendly, critical service business that employs East Africans in an effort to further development of East Africa and raise up Christian community leaders through business opportunities. Ron and Evie Moyer (USA/international)
Ron has been on staff with Youth with a Mission (YWAM) for sixteen years. Stationed at their training base in Tyler, Texas, Ron oversees and supports a number of international missionaries, leads international mission trips and is involved in training evangelists and church-growth specialists who are deployed around the world.
Derek and Claire Plantenga (Bolivia)
Derek and Claire and their daughter, Noelia, are currently serving with Food for the Hungry in Sucre, Bolivia. They are proud to be members of First Presbyterian Church, and thankful to have been officially sent overseas by FPC in 2008. Derek is working to support the spiritual and physical development of sponsored children and their families in the community of Horno Ck'asa through FH's Child Development Program. He is also working with FH to help meet the difficult challenges facing families in the area. The Plantengas hope to see transformation in this community through partnering with local churches and local leaders, training children and youth in leadership groups based on Biblical principals, and reaching out to families in their homes to support, encourage and challenge them to be able to transform their own lives. Pam * (Western Asia)
Sponsored by the PC(USA), Pam serves with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES). Only a small percentage of the population confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (mostly Russian Orthodox and Baptists). Pam teaches English as a Second Language (ESL) and serves as a team leader for a chapter of IFES, the largest evangelical ministry to college students in the world.
Lawrence and Melanie Tucker (Philippines)
Lawrence and Melanie work with Wycliffe Bible Translators and are begginning to serve at Asia Pacific Theological Seminary. Lawrence is teaching ESL (English Second Language) classes and Melanie is helping with administrative details as well as conversation times with students. Britt and Jonelle * (Western Asia)
Britt and Jonelle work in Western Asia teaching English as a foreign language, providing native English teachers to various schools in the area, and seek to provide opportunities for thier students to study in the U.S. They hope to develop communities in their nation that will initate church planting movements.
Donald and Martha Wehmeyer (Mexico)
At the request of the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico, the Rev. Donald Wehmeyer and Dr. Martha Wehmeyer were appointed to serve as mission co-workers in Mérida. Don is director of the School of Continuing Education at San Pablo Theological Seminary in Mexico, while Martha ministers from the home. Donald organizes conferences and workshops, teaches theology courses, and leads workshops in many of Mexico's rural areas. San Pablo Seminary trains students from throughout Central America. Martha, who is a native of Merida, ministers from the home as a volunteer medical doctor.
Michael Weller (Ethiopia)
Michael and Rachel Weller were appointed in 1994 to serve in Ethiopia with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY). Michael is PC(USA)’s regional liaison for the Horn of Africa, where PC(USA) works with partner churches in Sudan and Ethiopia. Rachel is health coordinator for the East and West Gambella Bethel Synods of the EECMY in western Ethiopia. They currently are living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Rachel is earning her degree in nursing and Michael divides his time between Pittsburgh and Africa.
Chad and Becky White (Malaysia)
Chad and Becky work with Wycliffe Bible Translators and are currently serving in the states. Chad is a language specialist and is helping develop written languages for people groups whose language has never existed in written form, and then translating the Bible into those languages. They will move to Malaysia to continue his translating work soon.

Afar Outreach
Afar Outreach with PC(USA) works with World Vision and other partners to deliver the gospel and community development to the Afar people. The Afar are the poorest people group in Ethiopia. They often refer to themselves as "The Forgotten People," as they are isolated and abandoned by much of the world. The Afar Partnership works to meet the most basic spiritual and physical needs of education, evangelism, agriculture and healthcare.
Mission India
Mission India pursues a vision of an "India Transformed by Christ." Their undertaking is to assist Indian churches and indigenous mission agencies in church planting. Mission India aims to equip India's Christian believers by providing them with crucial training and materials through Children's Bible Clubs, Adult Literacy Classes and Church Planter Training. Their programs are available in twenty-five Indian languages. Children's Bible Clubs work to touch the lives of India's children, giving them and their families new hope. Adult Literacy Classes work to give illiterate people skills to change and improve their lives. Through them many are introduced to the Gospel for the first time. Church Planter Training programs are equipping India's Christians to effectively share the Gospel, strengthen their local communities, and build up the church in India.
Proyecto Amistad
Presbyterian Border Ministry's Proyecto Amistad facilities partnership work between Presbyterians of Mexico and the United States--including First Presbyterian Church's mission work with Fuente de vida Church of Cuidad Acuña, Cohuila--as they work together in construction, children's ministry, relationship development and more. A new initiative for helping churches grow and lives transform, tentatively called the Amistad Child and Parent Program, is focused on developing Christian education for children (see www.amoprogram.com for curriculum used), outreach to their parents and leadership development for a growing church.
