A congregationally focused Care Team with skills in small home repairs

What is Handy Helpers?

• This team is a group of congregational volunteers working together to offer small home repairs for members of First Presbyterian Church with needs.

Who is encouraged to apply for this help?

• Congregational members who have small home repair needs resulting from limitations brought on by the aging process, a prolonged physical illness, a developmental or physical illness, or other life challenging situations.

Why offer this caring ministry?

• “Whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for the family of faith” (Gal. 6:10)

• To respond compassionately to tangible needs of those experiencing life-challenging limitations.

• Our congregation has, in one way or another, provided care for our members. It is felt that adding a team of persons for the specific purpose of providing small repairs will add a unique element of care.

What do the Handy Helpers do?

• Make a home visit to the homes of First Presbyterian Church members to evaluate the requested small repairs and evaluate the skills needed to complete the work.

• Discuss a recommended course of action.

• If licensed technical help is needed, we will offer our assistance to obtain and give oversight.

• Examples of types of small home repairs done by the Handy Helpers:

-replace light bulbs, install AC filters
 -minor cabinet repairs

Who makes up the Handy Helpers?

• The team is made up of trained volunteers who are committed to working together and to following the developed guidelines. They will provide small repairs in the home or yard of those in the First Presbyterian Church community requesting this help.

• Team members clearly understand how and when they are able to respond to minor requests for assistance. There will be an appropriate and agreed-upon pre-arranged plan for their services.
